last year at Christmas, my mom got all the guys in the family these REALLY WARM hats with flaps. WITH FLAPS. they are the best and made a great photo op. every year we also do a circle gift, where you bring a gift that is about $20 or so and you can steal, open a new one, etc. so this year i decided to use last year's picture as this year's gift. i found a naked frame, painted it, added lots of STUFF and buttons (yay buttons, how i love thee). the caption reads: HELP WANTED - 3 dwarves, the grumpy need not apply. :)

everyone always brings lovely gifts but i always like to make something really special that people will get a kick out of and hopefully fight over. ;)

A little birdhouse for her soul.

Once upon a time there was a girl named Suzi. She was an amazing princess of a girl but she was only an inch tall. One day she realized that sleeping in the grass all of the time was a bit too dangerous because of all of the scary animals wandering around! Taking advice from a garden gnome, she wandered over to a big red door and knocked her tiny knock. A very kind human answered the door, and Suzi squeakily (or so it seemed to the human) asked for a house. The human said, "come on in, the cats are very nice cats!" and so Suzi went inside and waited for the human to make her a house. The human painted and snipped paper and glued things while Suzi waited patiently, building herself a little nest out of cat fur and dust bunnies. "Should I add some gems?" asked the human. "Oh yes, please!" said Suzi. The human presented Suzi with her new house and Suzi was very pleased. Then the human said, "If you wish, your house can be in my house, and so you won't ever be cold. The kitties can make a loud rumbling noise, but if it won't scare you, please stay!" And so Suzi did and they were very happy!

some days, some weeks, some years....

so Thanksgiving has come and gone and I had had grand plans for the day. i scoped out some Dotted Swiss Bazzill in Caramel, got some fantastic turkey feathers ("normal" colors and hot, bright colors), some pipe cleaners and rhinestones. i even stuck all of the bits into a bag and brought them to my mom's house that morning. i was going to have us all make Hand Turkeys because they absolutely rule and besides, we needed place cards! but as these things go, we were all chatting and either watching or avoiding watching football, mom was cooking up a storm and I was trying to help... and the Hand Turkey project just didn't come together. at first i was quite sad about it, when I realized there wasn't enough time before we were about to eat. then i just let it go and enjoyed our Thanksgiving.

however, i could not let the idea go! and so tonight i made my very own Hand Turkey!

did anyone else make them this year? with your kids? or without? :D

yesterday was apparently "i have no artistic motivation" day. i did do a layout and a daily art card, so it wasn't a complete wash, but i spent more time sleeping than anything else. it's days like yesterday that get me looking at alllll the scrapbook-related stuff i have and just cringing. and looking at the stuff i do and wondering why i bother. i'm still totally jazzed about the stamps, because that's something that i'm not only doing for myself but that will be injected into the industry, even though it will be a teensy part of it.

the final stamp proof is this:

i love the ghetto blaster and the bird bath and the smaller squirrel. i'm just generally happy about it! yay! but the rest of scrapbooking, it's like, just a low point i guess. anger at myself for reckless spending, etc. oh well.

ooooooomg i sent it in! the stamp sheet is final and it is IN! now i have to hear back on time and etc., etc. i hope to get it sooooo soon, but every second will just suck! i have wanted to do this for years and honestly, i'm glad i waited! because my designs are a lot cooler now. ;) oh don't get me wrong, i had some really cute stuff going on... see?

but... it just wasn't quite right and the squirrel and monkey and well, a lot of them look like mutants. heh.

my next step is to work on a halloween sheet. it'll probably be a half sheet. i have so far a mummy, ghost, male and female vampire... spider... bat... :) obviously i need to do a witch. frankenstein's monster? what else?

everyone has a little crush on someone, whether it be for their art, their words, their music... in the scrap world, i have crushes on tons of people. there's Elsie, who really got me scrapping the way i wanted to be scrapping - with freedom and without rules. i had a brief flirtation with Ali Edwards, but while her ideas are stellar, her style is too clean and linear for me to jive with.

when i hopped onto the newest, craziest, most fantastic scrap site ever, i found tons and tons of talent all over the world. i have a lot of favs - the fashionistas there just rule the school and Lucy amazes me with her drawings... but one of the scrappers i relate to most is Martha, aka Subbacultcha. i noticed her stuff back at scrapbook.com and was drooling over it then, and now it's even easier for me to see her fantastic designs!

so i ganked the pic i used from her blog and scrapped it. an ode to Subbacultcha!

(also i have a little crush on Cam, but that's not necessarily scrap related! ;)

so usually the best part of my day when i'm not creating is MAIL TIME!! (sadly, not male time.) yesterday, this came in the mail and i swear that it's one of THE BEST kits EVAR. (until i start my own kit club! ;)

i was just totally blown away. plus i got this alphabet set from SoML as well. i so needed this. i'm so excited.

i've been bopping constantly between the computer and my ~~coffee table~~ scrap area today because i am negotiating to get my stamps created!! and they will be, darnit all!

i also have to crack open my screen print starter kit so i can get some screen print action goin' on!!

due to the polite nudging of one fabulous Mandy, i have decided just to JUMP in and start blogging.

first of all, i hate the word blog. i prefer journaling. it's one of those words that turned into a verb. also i hate "my bad". but that's a different story all together.

i am crazily guilty of ~~biting~~ buying off more than i can chew. so i have a ton of things i haven't even TRIED yet that are sitting around. and things i don't use nearly enough! (my silhouette!)

so in the near future, i want to SCREEN PRINT. i even got silver, pink, aqua and violet inks. i have no excuse not to screen print robots.

then i got the zutter bind-it-all - fantastic thing that i haven't tried yet. 40% off coupons at your lss can be your friends!

i also read tons of books on crafting and such. i am addicted to such things. the latest is the Crafter's Companion. it doesn't just give you neato projects (though i LOVE the projects in there!) but gives you insights into the lives of artists. fantastic! and i am eagerly awaiting publication of We Dare You which is coming up soon. the best part about books like these is that i get them at wholesale because i work at a fabu bookstore! w00t.

also, i need to learn to sew big time. but i don't want a huge sewing machine and i don't want to go to mum's every time i want to sew on a page. any suggestions?

i draw inspiration from a lot of places. wacky conversations with friends, love of ninjas and pirates, shoes and my sister suzanne. she's not my real sister, but a non-technical foster sister, but she is freakin' amazing. such artistic talent packed into her wee self. lookit her! (she's the one on top.)

anyhow, enough rambling for today. i want to work on my elsie challenge of 33 things i want to do before i'm 34. might be a two-pager! :)
